In the rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa where we work, incomes are low, there are many challenges, and children’s education is often not prioritised. We encourage parents to support their children and school communities, and we assist them with financial training, so they can afford to pay school fees and even establish small businesses to further improve their family’s quality of life.

School demonstration farms, permagardens and apiaries established at rural primary schools.
Parent groups and pupils trained in improved farming, beekeeping, marketing and enterprise skills.
Seeds, tools, hives and beekeeping equipment provided.
VSLA savings groups established and trained in saving, borrowing, record-keeping and financial literacy.
Harvests sold, with income shared between parents, schools and reinvestment in future crops.
School feeding and improved nutrition supported.

Greater capacity for parents to pay school fees, buy uniforms and provide scholastic materials.
Improved household income, savings and access to credit.
Improved food security, nutrition and dietary diversity.
More pupils eating meals to school, supporting concentration and attendance.
Greater parent collaboration, engagement and community support for education.
Schools benefit from income generated through farms and apiaries, supporting school priorities agreed by the PTA/community.
Improved food security and higher family income support better pupil retention and academic performance.
