ZAMBIA

An International Development success story!

African Revival has been working in Zambia since 2005, improving the quality of education for children and supporting 47 schools in Kalomo and Zimba Districts.

Our work will continue at pace to March 2025 with infrastructure and other projects underway – building of a classroom block, latrines, rainwater harvesting tank, and our Read Together project, which you can read more about below. We will then seek to wind down our operation in Zambia, leaving a lasting legacy.

The Board of Trustees believe the need for support in Northern Uganda and South Sudan is now far greater than that of the communities we have been working with in Zambia, and look forward to focusing our efforts in these countries.

In Uganda we work in the Acholi sub-region in the north, the centre of a brutal two-decade insurgency by the rebel group; Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).  When peace was restored in 2006, the people of northern Uganda started to rebuild their lives, but the effect on the schooling system has been long-standing, with many children still learning outside under trees.

South Sudan has the highest poverty rate at 82.3%, indicating severe economic challenges and a need for significant humanitarian and developmental aid (World Population Review).  Up to 2.8 million children in South Sudan are not receiving an education – the highest proportion of out of school children in the world (UNICEF).
