Announcing our first Ambassador – Alfie Bowen
August 20, 2020The team at African Revival are delighted to announce that we have appointed our first ever Ambassador – fine art photographer Alfie Bowen. We look forward to working with Alfie in the coming years to progress our shared goal of supporting education in Uganda, Zambia and South Sudan.
On his appointment, Alfie comments “It is a great privilege to have been offered such an important role at this outstanding charity. I have been impressed by the work of African Revival since donating two pieces of art to their annual ball last year, with proceeds put directly towards changing young lives across Africa.
I know from my own experiences just how important education is, and I look forward to playing a part in increasing the quality of education in Uganda, Zambia and South Sudan, and championing African Revival in the months and years ahead.”
Tony Allen, Chairman said “My fellow Trustees and I are delighted that Alfie has agreed to become an ambassador for African Revival. His photography is increasingly well renowned, both here in the UK and internationally. It speaks more powerfully than any words of the critical need for us to do so much more to safeguard the natural world.
Education also undoubtedly has a significant role to play in furthering that objective. The importance of sustainable livelihoods, and how they can be embraced by communities, is built on the foundation of a good primary education.
It is much more difficult to expect communities deprived of basic educational facilities to live in harmony, rather than in conflict, with the natural world. Our approach is to support rural East African communities in building, maintaining, and operating such facilities. We hope our work will not only become self-sustaining within the communities we serve, but will also foster a greater understanding of the importance of doing so in harmony with the natural world.
We very much look forward finding ways in which together we can work towards furthering these interactive goals.
Elaine Miller, Executive Director, says “We are thrilled Alfie has chosen to become an Ambassador and look forward to working with him, helping us achieve our mission: to transform schools in Africa into effective and thriving teaching and learning environments – schools in which skilled and motivated teachers are supported by the parents and community in providing quality education to nursery and primary school children.”
